OOM: Edward needs to learn how to have fun.

"I think we'll start with Dagobah," Jenny told him as she walked towards the cockpit of her small shuttle. "According to my computer, it's a small swamp planet discovered a thousand years ago by a sect of Jedi who had broken away from the Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire after a deceleration decreeing all religions founded upon fictional works were null and void. There's not much there now. It's been abandoned... um, well, for a while."

She stopped by her chair, turning around to make sure that Edward had indeed followed her from Milliways.

Her shuttle wasn't much, Jenny knew, but she considered it her life. It was the only home she had (unless you counted the room in Milliways) and her only means of actually doing anything. Well, anything remotely interesting. Random knickknacks from various planets were scattered about the room, mostly concentrated away from the cockpit and in the back of the shuttle. A couple of photographs of herself and Bart were taped on to various walls. Her prized piece of psychic paper was lying underneath a stack of books.

It felt more like a home now than when she commandeered it from Messaline.

"Well?" Jenny slid into the pilot's seat and looked at him. "Whatcha think, Edward?"

"It still implied a majority," Jenny protested as she walked towards the back of the ship. "A majority of cultures that still shag, whether or not it's taboo to talk about it. Which is ridiculous, I think. How are you ever supposed to learn anything if you're not allowed to ask questions on a topic?"

There was a hint of frustration in her voice. It was, of course, one of the problems in surviving. There was just so much to catch up on, so much her inheritance hadn't prepared her for. She didn't like coming across as naive, but sometimes she felt as if she had no choice.

She turned to look at him briefly before keying in the code to open the shuttle door. The second the hatch popped open, a thick fog penetrated the artificial environment. Taking a deep breath, she jumped off the edge rather than lowering the stairs. Jenny landed easily on the soft dirt below.

"They don't."

Edward did the same thing following her, except his landing was soundless. If it weren't for the foot prints it might have been as though he hadn't landed.

"You did take my seriously," he murmured looking at the fog all around. His eyes didn't go to his hands because they didn't need to. There were endless trees around them and a moistness in the air he could taste and see more than feel.

He was stunned to find himself feeling disappointment at this being his first view of another world.

"I had no reason not to," she admitted with a small shrug, suddenly afraid he hated it. "You wanted someplace uninhabited. You wanted someplace without sunlight. And I promised you a swamp."

It wasn't the most glamorous place she had ever visited. In fact, Jenny found it on the bottom of any hypothetical list she might possess of places to visit. But it's what her friend (because Jenny considered Edward her friend no matter what he thought) wanted.

"It's usually more fun if there are people around. All sorts, Edward. Not just ones that look like me or you. If you're afraid of sticking out in a crowd, trust me when I say you won't. Not if there's a hermaphroditic hexapod walking alongside you. Or anything, really. There's a freedom out here in the universe that I don't think you find on Earth as easily."

Her mental insistence on the term friend was becoming near amusing. She worked through her own mind and people the same way, giving and taking with the same speed; the same innocent, hungry, focus.

Just the thought of others was enough. Since it came in a flash of beings she'd seen, other things he couldn't begin to name or keep or identify. Some far more obviously different on the outside.

"Is it like this over the whole planet?"

"The swamp?"

Jenny nodded, staring at him closely. She was trying to judge his reaction, searching for that flicker of approval or discontent. It was hard to find. He was too frustratingly guarded.

"Yeah. All the way to the caps and back. Still want that run? Cause I'd be up for it, you know. I like running that fast, but it's not something Gallifreyans were meant to do."

Edward stared at the endless expanse, taking in more scents and sounds than--his companion? captor? tour guide? friend?--Jenny could. The sounds of life on this small shady, warm, wet, forsaken rock. Even in the universe under their rules it wasn't as welcoming.

Her voice invaded, chattering on and he looked back, considering the last few words, changing as they did in his head to not something we were meant to do.

Then, in a movement too fast the human eye, his hand was held out.

Jenny only beamed at him when he held out his hand, not at all startled by the faster-than-human movement. She was certain that Bart could move faster. And she was used to that by now.

So his hand is accepted quickly, along side a tight hug.

Edward stilled at the sudden hug. Her scent washed over him, but it was nothing in comparison to the reaction Bella's brought. Her warmth spread against his body, the thirst but a minor irritant. He joy was more alarming than either. Her sense of self-preservation nonexistent.

"It'll be better if you're on my back," he said quietly, the note of confusion not lost from it.

There was little to be afraid of when you knew you had centuries to live and regenerations to spend. At least, that's what Jenny considered his confusion to be about. Her field book had stated with little tactfulness that vampires mean death. She just couldn't bring herself to see her friend that way.

Death, already faced, was not something she feared. Not with eleven regenerations on her side.

"Back, okay," she muttered, grinning at him before stepping around to jump on.

It made sense, more sense than being scooped in someone's arms did. But that someone was usually Bart and every and all exceptions applied to him.

It probably helped that Bart wanted to hold on to Jenny in the same way Jenny wanted to hold on to him while running. Edward waited until she was settled, arms and legs wrapped around his body, keeping himself highly aware of her infectious glee even through the focus of her fragile body.

Hold on tight were the last words he spoke, before he tore off through the trees. He didn't pause or breathe, he just shot off weaving through trees, seeing them as naturally as though they were standing still, knowing the faster he pushed the more the entire world would blur for her. Longing already to be going far faster.

His focus, aside from being on the path in front of him, followed her reactions in case he needed to stop or catch her.

Stop or catch her? Jenny would have been indignant at the very thought. She was an expert at riding on board a speeedster express, thank you very much. She and Bart had traveled all around the United States like that, after all.

She laughed in delight, keeping her eyes open and taking in the blurred world. She was learning to associate certain blurs with objects and it helped that Edward wasn't anywhere as fast as Bart could be at his top speed.

They had just passed by a bunch of trees and she was guessing that that rather dull blue coloured spot over there in the distance had to be lake of some sort.

It was brilliant. Jenny let out another excited laugh as he ran.

Edward went faster and faster as he acclimated to the fact she was used to this, to her laughter reaching his ears even after the sounds waves it made were miles behind them the next moment. His feet no longer left prints, barely seemed to touch down, each touch in the velvety ground only a spring board for the next.

It went on and on and on.

He relaxed as it did so, catching sight of new plants, flowers, and even creatures before they could bound away. Slowing down only when he reached a large body of water which spanned the horizon.

She closed her eyes for a split second as he moved faster, reveling in the feel of the wind blowing her hair from her face. It was different riding on someone's back rather than someone's arms, but fun all the same.

Even if Bart could go faster, she thought with a bit of loving pride.

Jenny was almost disappointed when Edward slowed. The run seemed to be over far too quickly for her tastes. Still, the water held promise.

"Do you like swimming?"

Edward shrugged, his body moving as though she were as weightless as a feather on it, while he looked right and left. "Not nearly as much. Which way?"

It was something she noticed. Bart would have to put her down by now. Edward really did act as if she weighed nothing. Certainly an interesting difference.

Jenny shrugged shortly after his question. "Don't know! That's the fun of it, you know."

Edward chuckled and took off to the right again. It was half to make sure she was okay, more than the body of water. Trees began to whirl past them, new shades and different types, elevation changed and the forest became more dense but no less easy for him to move through without second thoughts.

Clearly he agreed, if his choice of path was any sort of indication. The brown and green and purple of the trees blurred past her. She could sense the incline of a hill, vaguely hear some odd creature crying out as they ran by.

There was so much to take in, she had simply forgotten to breathe. Not that Jenny noticed. She could hold her breath for an awfully long time if it came down to it.

And, right now, there were other more important things to focus on. Wishing she could actually process everything she was seeing fast enough. Feeling incredibly amazed and jealous over this gift Edward and Bart seemed to share.

If it was up to Jenny, she could run like this forever.

Her thoughts and her ability to breathe differently than human caught up at different points, like they were on intersecting lines.

Edward could push himself harder and harder into that wind, never losing his fear for her safety but, allowing himself to take delight in a world where he didn't suddenly have to stop because metropolises, megalopolises, roads or trains sprang up. It was an endless expanse.

Maybe Degobah wasn't a horrible first stop after all.

It was turning out to be quite fun, actually! And to think she had actually wasted time worrying over possible disappointment. Disappointed individuals didn't run like this.

She would have to bring Bart here sometime. Or find an equally deserted planet. He'd love to run without barriers, she was certain. And then they could try...

Oh, now that was an idea.

The fall by the Umbeka pool side flashed through her head and Jenny remembered the pain tumbling on to the ground at superspeed felt like. It had hurt, but hadn't hurt nearly as much as the bullet had. Maybe if she had a bit more control, she could land. Maybe...

Without warning, Jenny moved her feet on to Edward's back, repositioned her hands, and pushed herself off of him and into a back flip.

One that wasn't landed nearly as well as she had hoped.

Edward felt it the moment her feet shifted, and he was twisting around, swearing recriminations loudly in his head as he watched her spring outward in midair and flip at the same time. There was still no fear in her.

But her trajectory was wrong. She'd started out moving at his speed but her body wasn't meant to go that speed and it was slowing even as momentum was still in her figure.

He ran forward with pause, astonished as she curled inward ready to take a hit from the ground on the wrong parts, more like the soldier she mentioned earlier than the gymnastic display of hardly seconds earlier.

He grabbed for her, sliding half under so that he had her shoulders jerked to him even if her feet still hit the ground. He wondered if that was worse than the impact of granite his body would feel like.

He didn't care if her bones hadn't broken. The words came out as a snarl from the blackest expression. "Are you insane?"

Jenny pushed her palm against Edward's chest to arrange herself into a sitting position. She rubbed at her knees and her elbows, joints having absorbed the most of the impact. But she made no move to slide off of him. The grass was muck-filled and if she weighed nothing while being carried, she wouldn't weigh anything while sitting on top of him.

Well, until she got back up on her feet.

"Okay, so going to have to work on that," she muttered to herself, ignoring the snarl and question. "If I adjust my momentum, and maybe angle my body better..."

Oh, wait. Did he say something a moment ago? Jenny blinked and looked at him, finally taking in his anger. "So you do care!"

Edward rolled his eyes, jaw held tight, as he sat up, causing her to shift down into his lap. He was looking her over, without touching or moving her, angrily. Two medical degrees served him well enough with his other senses.

"Because, of course, my other plan would be to put you on an uninhabited planet so you could succeed in killing yourself near me."

"If I died, you'd just have to wait around for a bit," Jenny answered, now glaring back.

She hadn't mind dying. And most of the time, she didn't mind talking about it. But his inference that she would be so dumb as to try to kill herself was just daft.

"It's how I survived before," she continued, flexing a wrist. "I regenerate. I have eleven regenerations left and I'm going to live for centuries and centuries and it's going to be absolutely no fun if I don't get to take chances."

She was an insane two month old.

She got to be mortal and have twelve lives and she was doing her best to figure out to kill herself during them? Didn't she realize some people would have withstood the worst torture of time to have that?

He stood up slowly, bringing her with him, and setting her back on her feet. His expression had not relaxed. "Which means you are going to do things like that often?"

Jenny winced as her weight settled on to her legs and feet. They ached slightly from her fall, but nothing she could not live with. Still, Jenny kept a hand firmly on his arm.

It helped with the balance. Really. That was what it was.

"It was worth a try," she protested. "And Jay can't support my weight as well as you do and does this mean we're friends now? If you get this worried over me?"
