OOM: Edward needs to learn how to have fun.
"I think we'll start with Dagobah," Jenny told him as she walked towards the cockpit of her small shuttle. "According to my computer, it's a small swamp planet discovered a thousand years ago by a sect of Jedi who had broken away from the Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire after a deceleration decreeing all religions founded upon fictional works were null and void. There's not much there now. It's been abandoned... um, well, for a while."

She stopped by her chair, turning around to make sure that Edward had indeed followed her from Milliways.

Her shuttle wasn't much, Jenny knew, but she considered it her life. It was the only home she had (unless you counted the room in Milliways) and her only means of actually doing anything. Well, anything remotely interesting. Random knickknacks from various planets were scattered about the room, mostly concentrated away from the cockpit and in the back of the shuttle. A couple of photographs of herself and Bart were taped on to various walls. Her prized piece of psychic paper was lying underneath a stack of books.

It felt more like a home now than when she commandeered it from Messaline.

"Well?" Jenny slid into the pilot's seat and looked at him. "Whatcha think, Edward?"

Jenny smiled back in a similar subdued manner, copying Edward's demeanor. It was easier than make one up of her own. Clearly whenever she needed to pretend to be subdued, she just needed to think of Edward's typical persona.

As soon as they were far away enough, Jenny beamed up at Edward. She slipped the psychic paper back in her pocket and wrapped her arm around his waist. "You were brilliant, Edward."

Less than even half a minute later, she had to let go of him to slip into her seat. She pulled the safety harness over her head. "Brilliant."

Edward Cullen: Smile (sometimes)[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 02:19 am (UTC)
Edward was half rolling his eyes and shaking his head when the hugging began again. He was beginning to feel this was a particularly Jenny habit. He took his seat and pulled down the harness with the smallest force, like it were a kitten. It didn't distract him enough that he missed the image of his face in Jenny's view smiling just slightly.

Maybe that had been slightly fun.

Another worker in an Astroland uniform came out and began lecturing them on the safety of their arms, legs and any belongings which might fall out going at the speeds and directions they would find themselves at. After being warned, while people behind shuffled things more securely away, the guideline for the ride shivered and they began to move forward.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 02:34 am (UTC)
Was that a smile she saw once again on Edward Cullen's face? Jenny suspected that it was, a suspicion that made her laugh. The laugh was quickly lost as the short chain of cars began to move forward.

The sensation couldn't quite be called rolling, it was far too smooth for that. It also couldn't quite be anything near fast yet. As the coaster dipped suddenly and people in front and behind them screamed, a flash went off.

Jenny continued to smile manically, the smile only fading when the coaster suddenly came to a stop at a seventy-five degree angle. She wrinkled her nose and turned her head to look at Edward.

"Ever wonder what those old fashioned rockets felt like?"
Edward Cullen: SpiderMonkey Ride[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 02:57 am (UTC)
Edward chuckled at her enthusiam buffered by shock screaming around them. He settled his head back against the harness pads, stiff blocks to protect anyone else that he had to be careful not to lean on lest he snap one off. There was irritation that even if he might enjoy this, he'd have to hold himself near perfectly still and unresponsive.

Seconds had passed and suddenly, the screaming started again from those in front of them as the coaster reached a peak and went shuddering down, increasing speed with each set of people flung forward, rolling upside down and into a loop, the propulsion sending them faster and faster. The world blurred in the eyes of the mind near him and he watched it pass with a wide smug smile, catching every detail of the people watching them curl this time outwardly toward them.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 03:08 am (UTC)
She wished she could move her head to see if Edward was enjoying herself. If only she could read his mind, right now, to check on that. They were probably the only two silent people in the whole train. Better that way. There was no fun in screaming your head off when a well placed laugh could do.

Her knuckles turned white as she clutched the handle bars. They zoomed across another turn, moving more and more quickly with every loop and every bit of momentum gained. Jenny pushed aside the part of her mind assessing the physical structure itself to just savour every moment of the high paced frantic speedway.

Life ought to be this fast all the time.
Edward Cullen: Soft hiding in me Somewhere[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 03:34 am (UTC)
Her peculiarity and penchant for undercutting his assumption of how she would react or what she would do next stayed as she quietly beamed and he bet if it weren't for the harness she'd be bouncing in her seat, even through the bufting air spins.

They went through a triple set of loops and someone seven rows back lost their lunch (which, thankfully, landed on plain ground and not a person). The turned sidewards in places, relapping, only to retake turns that had been skipped, it jerking them forward and backwards suddenly, while Edward kept his hands securely crossed over his stomach in a pose that looked leisurely and impossible for a normal person to hold against such force.

It starting slowing at the end of a long ramp, only to pull them back suddenly in the opposite direction, about to take the whole thing again in reverse before it would come to complete stop.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 01:42 pm (UTC)
Her eyes widened at the huge drop that suddenly appeared when the coaster went into reverse. They were shooting upward, but all Jenny could see was the drop. This was brilliant, no, beyond brilliant.

She'd so have to take Bart here when he finally decided to show his face again. If he ever would - no, no, don't focus on that.

Jenny let herself be lost in the ride again, staring at the galactic landscape the hover coaster creators had so thoughtfully provided. She laughed and beamed and forced herself to overcome the forces pushing against her to turn her head and steal one quick look at Edward.

Was he enjoying his self? She hoped so.

The ride came to an end all too soon. They slowed down again, the familiar entrance looming as the hover train came to a stop. Jenny sighed in disappointment. It seemed to be a unique sentiment among the other beings on the ride.
Edward Cullen: You amuse me[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 05:55 pm (UTC)
Edward was smiling, because even if he couldn't take the ride for itself exactly, he was able to feel the rushing exhilaration of it through a dozen voices surrounding him closely. Each spin and drop and force plastering them, the fear mixed with elation, the giddy swoop and terrified clutching.

When the ride came to a stop, he made sure to shift his arms from the all too leisurely hold of stone and look like he was brushing his pants carelessly. Jenny sighed her disappointment even through the glow of elation left from the ride. Edward turned his head finally, slowly and so his cheeks stayed half an inch from the padded block.

"Going to add roller coasters to your reasons to travel the universe over?"
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 07:35 pm (UTC)
Jenny shrugged, flashing him a half-smile. She could see the remains of a proper smile on his face. Edward liked the ride no matter how much restraint he had to put in to holding the harness.

"It's a hover coaster. Never been on a roller one. Maybe?"

She shrugged again as the harnesses automatically lifted above them, allowing each and every being to exit the coaster in a civilised fashion.

"What about you?" Jenny asked as she stepped on to the platform and waited for Edward. "Is this good enough reason to come travelling with me again? Or maybe to buy our souvenir holo?"
Edward Cullen: [Person] Bella Tree Talk[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 09:06 pm (UTC)
"It's not a reason not to," Edward said standing and moving from their row, as people began to shuffle in taking their spots. If he had a reason not to it was Jenny's jumping off of him. Which he hadn't thought of until now.

"If you want a copy."
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 10:44 pm (UTC)
Well, that was a good thing. She flashed him a happy grin and waited for the crowd to dissapate before begining to walk towards the exit. The less people, the more Edward may want to travel with her again.

"Wouldn't you want a copy though?" Jenny questioned a few moments after when they neared the booth. She tilted her head, looking a little hopeful. "We could get it two-dimensional so it fits in better in your Earth."
Edward Cullen: Contented Talking[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 10:51 pm (UTC)
"I don't worry about my personal possessions fitting in," Edward said, with a sardonic undertone, as they stopped before the booth.

The cars and the houses themselves were gauche in the eyes of the world. Little things they took upon themselves because they loved them, without worrying so much about the way they were taken by others.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 10:57 pm (UTC)
She was just trying to be helpful! Jenny rolled her eyes at him before remembering that there was another being (a curious appearing cyborg male) waiting for them to either purchase or scram.

There was another, smaller eye roll at that before Jenny dug out a couple of marked coins from her pocket and placed it on the counter.

"Two of number 128," she told the man. As he went about processing the holos, Jenny looked back at Edward. "Knowing a goddess is really useful sometimes. She's promised to take me shopping one day too."

Money was one thing. But shopping? With someone who knew Earth clothing and everything? Fantastic.
Edward Cullen: Qua?[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 11:00 pm (UTC)
Edwards look turned bemused at her newest topic, his head cocked to one side. "A goddess."

It was a strange notion, yet not too strange, given the marker for judging strange now involved aliens, other planets, and a bar at the end of everything.

"Which one?"
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 11:16 pm (UTC)
"A kitsune named Inari," Jenny replied as she watched the man go about producing the holos. It was, in her opinion, a fascinating process. "Jay said that she's Asian. I met her because of him."

She giggled a little at the memory. It had been rather amusing at the time, watching her boyfriend fear a talking animal.

"She was a fox at the time. Cause that's what kitsune goddesses can do, I think. But she's nice. She gave me and Jay money so we wouldn't have to worry about paying for rooms in Milliways."
Edward Cullen: A Boy Just[personal profile] themidnightson on August 26th, 2008 11:25 pm (UTC)
Shapeshifter's were not a new thing to him, but the idea that there were gods and goddesses wandering Milliways brought a whole new level to the capacity of the place.

"She sounds quite kind."

In his mind the word was charitably playful which probably fit 'kitsune' and 'trickster' better, but the changed word hung more on her memories than the words she'd spoken.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 26th, 2008 11:59 pm (UTC)
"She is."

"And here's your holos, ma'am," the cyborg interrupted, handing over two small boxes depicting the hover coaster and sporting its name Black Hole. It was brightly coloured and proudly sported the Astroland logo. Jenny pushed the coins across the table in exchange.

Then, as soon as they began to walk away, she passed one of the small boxes over to Edward. She looked at him, mildly nervous, as she asked, "You're not going to throw it out, are you? I thought you might like this better than the bear."
Edward Cullen: Uncertain Amusement or Annoyance[personal profile] themidnightson on August 27th, 2008 12:13 am (UTC)
"It is more personal than a fluff covered toy."

Which did not answer either statement, but Edward was opening his box with outwardly calm demeanor and inwardly an quiet interest in its new and difference from pictures back home.

He wondered where he could keep it.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 27th, 2008 12:18 am (UTC)
Jenny opened her own box quickly, beaming brightly when the three dimensional holograph of her and Edward blasting through a black hole in the coaster cart appeared. She thought it was brilliant. Definitely worth placing next to that photo of her and Bart on the cockpit.

"Yeah," she agreed, still staring at it as she walked. "I like it. You even look like you're enjoying yourself, Edward."
Edward Cullen: Dazzling Face[personal profile] themidnightson on August 27th, 2008 12:29 am (UTC)
Edward looked like he always did to himself, surreal when placed next another person. He looked very much like he could have been sitting still in a chair, arms crossed, looking to the side, more than the wide eyed, open mouthed faces near by. He stood out and that was bound to annoy him, even here. Jenny was smiling the big, bright smile he was coming to associate with her and there was no doubt she was in throes of enjoying the ride.

But it was the first thing, not of Earth, that he could take as his. He hadn't thought or wanted anything of Milliways. Objects were quite useless when not for distraction or purpose.

"I'll have to find a place to put it my family won't look," he said after a pause. This thought was more toward Alice, since the others respected his privacy in a way his mind rarely could them.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 27th, 2008 12:36 am (UTC)
She nodded, growing thoughtful rather quickly. He liked it, that much was sure. And he seemed to actually want it. Even if Edward hadn't fully admitted such, Jenny was certain he liked her. And yet, he didn't want to mention any of this to his family.

Just like he had panicked over the book.

"Why don't you want them to know about Milliways?" Jenny queried a moment or two later. "You said some of them might even like it, didn't you?"
Edward Cullen: Losing this one[personal profile] themidnightson on August 27th, 2008 12:38 am (UTC)
"It has been unpredictable-" Edward started, before smiling offly with a shake of his head. "They would need to see it to understand and I haven't been able yet to test forcing the door to appear should I need to explain clearly."
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 27th, 2008 12:41 am (UTC)
"I just recently managed to get my door to appear regularly. If I think about Milliways when I enter my shuttle, I tend to wind up there more often than not."

Which Jenny was still extremely thankful about. She wouldn't want to have to be stuck on one planet so she could visit what had become her favorite place in the universe.

"If you got one, do you think you would bring any of them there? Like maybe that girl I remind you of? I'd like to meet her."
Edward Cullen: Laugh it up Chuckles[personal profile] themidnightson on August 27th, 2008 12:44 am (UTC)
"Maybe." He said the word slowly, but there was an amusement in his expression. "Alice would love Milliways." There was a sudden small laugh. "She'd go seeking out the multigalactic shopping she couldn't do back home."

The ways their house would change in one day.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on August 27th, 2008 01:04 am (UTC)
"Alice?"

Jenny's voice reflected her happiness at the use of an actual name. Two in one name, she realised. His Dad and... and his sister?

Lucky Alice.

"I like it," she stated quickly, pushing envy aside. "It's a pretty name. And I would so take her shopping! Well, if she'd want to go with me."
