Bart, trailing along after her, is just a little bit speechless. This is like... something out of a science fiction movie or something. Which, granted, so was Milliways, but there are a lot less human and a lot more science-fiction to this place.

"Woah," is his eloquent description.

"Isn't it?"

Beeeeeeam.

"It's the first world I've been to since leaving Messaline. Came here to see winter for myself. But it's so big and there are so many different people here from so many different planets and... and we're going to need bathing suits, I think."

"Yeah."

Absently eyeing a squid-like creature that appears to be waving to him, "Do they have bathing suits for, uh... hominids?"

If squids could grin, this one would most certainly be doing so. The black beady eyes seem to light up with amusement and the beaky mouth opens.

"Thiiiiiis way," it answers in a scratchy voice, waving a tentacle to a nearby store. "My brother oooooowns the store. Finest humanoid clothing in allll Umbeka!"

Sounds good enough to Jenny. With another tug of Bart's hand, she begins to walk in the direction of the shop. These people sure are helpful!

And he follows. Jenny's kind of in charge here, yeah.

Plus, he's also pretty busy staring at the squid and trying to figure out how it talked like that, and then staring at the customers in the store, some of whom are novelty shoppers on whom humanoid clothing would never fit in a million plastic surgeries.

...

It doesn't help that 'humanoid clothing' has a very interesting range from the very weird fashions of the year 3012 to the even weirder 1970s.

"Um."

There's a lot to chose from inside the store and it takes Jenny a moment to realise that they're going to need money. She digs into a pocket and pulls out some of Inara's coins.

"I think these might work." Grin? "Meet you back here in ten minutes?"

NOOOO DON'T LEAVE HIM HE'LL GET LOST.

Ahem.

The narration means: "Okay."

There is only slight trepidition in letting go of her hand, because he doesn't exactly want to lose her in the crowd and get stuck on an alien planet.

She beams at him and blows him a kiss before wandering off within the store. There are rows and racks of clothing and hats and scarves and all sorts of things that she can barely contain her excitement.

Soon enough, though, Jenny finds the bathing suit section. Which, for the sake of 51st century humans everywhere, contains a lot of bikinis. She tilts her head, eying them curiously. The don't seem to cover a lot, but that could be good, right? For what Will said about touching and splashing and everything?

Either way, she eventually selects an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini that she thinks Bart'll like.

Bart takes a while to find the mens' bathing suit section, and even longer to find something even resembling 21st century swimwear.

We won't go into the 51st century mens' swimwear. (Let's just say they're really open-minded.)

At any rate, he finds himself a pair of red-and-yellow swimming trunks and then wanders off to find (a) Jenny, or (b) a changing room of any sort.

Within the ten minutes time, Jenny is exactly where she had promised to be: waiting by the front door and looking for Bart. The bikini (now purchased) is stuffed into her pocket. She waves excitedly when she sees him.

"Ready?"

Bart, thankfully, found a useful currency in his pockets and fumbled his way through his first purchase of clothing (or anything!) on an alien planet*.

And found his way back to Jenny, largely by speeding through pretty much every possible path until he found the right one back. She's used to sudden appearance now, of course?

"You bet."

*Sob, says the narration. Mun's little boy all growed up.

Those sudden appearances make her hearts beat faster every time.

Her smile widens and she reaches for his hand. Jenny thinks, for a moment, that they should run because, well, it's fun. But a wary voice in her head tells her it is far better to walk like a normal... well, whatever.

"I'm so going to swim circles around you," Jenny states happily as they begin to walk down the corridor of the station, following the arrows leading to the pools. "Just you wait."

Grin.

"That's what you say now."

He is so going to be the one swimming circles around her.

At least, once they get past that interesting and slightly daunting security door that presumably leads to the pools.

The Judoon have calculated their proper catalogueing interview for when the not-human is expected to wake up.

Fortunately for Bart, they didn't count on his metabolism.

It takes a couple minutes for the sedative to wear off fully, during which Bart drowsily acknowledges he is in a dark, gray room, containing one cot, a table on which various medical-type objects reside, many of which he is hooked up to, and one door, which is closed and unlikely to be opening any time soon.

His ankle is also swollen and hurting, and, he obverses, unlikely to be useful for running or even walking anytime soon.

Perfect.

When Jenny had talked about rescuing Bart on dates, she had honestly meant from silly little things, like kitsunes. Umbeka was supposed to be fun. The hot pool was definitely fun and the things they were doing to each other...

But now, as she crawls through air vents underneath the spaceport, is not the time to be thinking of such things. She wants to, very much. Jenny wants to go back to that perfect moment they were sharing. It makes her so very angry to be here.

At every glimmer of light, she looks up into the vents. She had crossed into the detention center minutes earlier. Now, it seems, Jenny has reached the cells. This, then, is where the problem lays.

How to find Bart in a sea of numerous prisoners.

You are in a dark room with a number of futuristic needles poking in you, attached to a grouping of machines that are either monitoring you or plotting your destruction. Do you:

1) Call out for someone to get whatever you're here for over with and hope they'll send you off with a lollipop or something, or

2) Start pulling needles out because there is no way those can be good news, in the process causing one of those machines to overbalance and fall to the ground with a rather loud clattering sound.

You have chosen option 2. Please stand by while the operator transfers your call.

Yeah, that would so be Bart. He wouldn't sit still long enough to become the Judoon's test subject. He'd totally go and make a mess of things!

Eagerly, Jenny picks up pace within the air vent until reaching the grating where the clattering sound came from. She lifts her head up carefully (if not uncomfortably), trying to peer inside.

"Bart?"

His attention migrates in a downward-and-sideways fashion from its previous position going 'WHOOPS' at the fallen technology.

"Hey," he says, usefully, grin breaking out over his face.

Cause THE CAVALRY'S HERE!

His grin causes a new one to break out all over Jenny's face. She can't help it really.

"Hi," she echoes like a teenage girl before realising she came here with a mission in mind.

Right. She needs to get Bart out. "Think you can step back and knock over some more things?"

"Consider it done."

Possibly because, a second or two after he says it, it is done.

"I hope you have a plan for this."

Cause he doesn't, really.

She does. Sort of.

Okay, so what if she's better at making it up as she goes along? It's a family trait, thank you, and one that's proved to be quite useful to her Dad!

"Sure do," Jenny lies, moving Bart's back pack out of the way and falling on her back. She looks at the grate for a moment before kicking it with force. Less than a second later, she's sticking her head out of the hole in the floor and smiling at him.

And that would be him, grinning back from the bed, despite ankle that is rather visibly swollen to the metaphorical size of a bowling ball.

"So what's the plan?"

Jenny winces when she sees his ankle, feeling some sort of emotion akin to guilt. It's not a pretty emotion at all. In fact, Jenny can't stand it.

She hoists herself up out of the vent, her grin faltering slightly. A couple of steps and she's over by the bed, sitting next to him.

"Got your backpack. How long do you think we have until the Judoon get here?"

His grin, on the other hand, widens, especially with mention of his backpack.

"I don't know."

Beat.

"How long's it been?"

She shrugs, quickly stealing a kiss.

"Long enough, I think." Beat. "Can you crawl?"
