The space station is far bigger than Jenny imagined it would be. So, after lunch, she's tugged Cavilo away from the canteen to explore.

Specifically, she has her eyes on the stands. It might be nice to bring home a small gift for Bart. For a change. However, it's a dog self-walker that's caught her attention.

"What do you think, Lara?" Jenny asks, looking at her companion. "Think Slowpoke might like it?"

Cavilo moves up alongside her, lowering her voice again.

"Hon, you were a soldier." There's faint reproach in her tone. "How did you manage?"

Jenny's eyes narrowed in frustration. She didn't get it, did she? That life was important. That you could be more than what you were born to be - all those lessons her father had imparted to her on Messaline.

"I'm still a soldier. Just a soldier that knows better now."

They've left the deserted corridor, and are heading down the concourse the way they came.

"Right now, the question is whether that one we left back there is more scared of us or more angry. I'm betting on more scared, but you need to realize that it's our lives we're betting on it."

"If he tried something, we could handle it," Jenny stated firmly. "Two against one. He's learned his lesson. Dad would disapprove if we did anything more."
toxic_perfume: noir[personal profile] toxic_perfume on October 8th, 2009 04:12 am (UTC)
A short silence.

"That's very important to you, isn't it." Quiet, and understanding.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on October 8th, 2009 04:14 am (UTC)
Jenny nods. "Yeah, it is."
toxic_perfume: backlit[personal profile] toxic_perfume on October 8th, 2009 04:16 am (UTC)
"Mm."

Her tone's too mild -- warm, even -- for the question to sound pointed. "Where is your dad these days?"
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on October 8th, 2009 04:19 am (UTC)
Not that Jenny would notice in the first place. She likes talking about her father, likes it a lot.

"Travelling, I think," she responds, faltering slightly. "He doesn't know I'm still alive. At least... it's a little complicated. I've seen him twice in Milliways, but he's from further in the future than me."
toxic_perfume: noir[personal profile] toxic_perfume on October 8th, 2009 04:23 am (UTC)
"Ah," she says, in a comforting tone. "Well. Maybe someday he'll come back, and you can tell him about it."
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on October 8th, 2009 11:55 pm (UTC)
Jenny smiled softly. "I hope so."

"After all, he's only been gone for ... how long?"
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on October 9th, 2009 11:50 pm (UTC)
"It's not his fault," Jenny answered stubbornly. "He doesn't know I'm still alive."
toxic_perfume: glancing up[personal profile] toxic_perfume on October 11th, 2009 11:44 pm (UTC)
"But you still care a lot about what he would think if did know."

Her tone's too gentle for that to sound like a criticism.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on October 13th, 2009 04:26 pm (UTC)
"Because he's my father."

It made sense, didn't it? But the look on Jenny's face seemed to indicate she wasn't too certain of that herself.
toxic_perfume: backlit[personal profile] toxic_perfume on October 13th, 2009 07:07 pm (UTC)
She sighs. It sounds ... disappointed.

"If you say so."
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on October 22nd, 2009 08:04 pm (UTC)
Jenny frowns, confused by that hint of disappointment. "What?"
toxic_perfume: backlit[personal profile] toxic_perfume on October 27th, 2009 11:25 pm (UTC)
She shakes her head. "Never mind, hon."
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on November 2nd, 2009 04:09 am (UTC)
Jenny watches Cavilo from the corner of her mind, hesitant and confused. "Maybe it's time to go back to the ship."
toxic_perfume: glancing up[personal profile] toxic_perfume on November 2nd, 2009 04:46 am (UTC)
"That's probably a good idea."

She glances up and down the corridor.

"First, though -- do you see a restroom anywhere?"
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on November 4th, 2009 03:51 am (UTC)
Jenny gave Cavilo yet another perplexed glance. "Why? There's one on the ship."
toxic_perfume: backlit[personal profile] toxic_perfume on November 4th, 2009 01:38 pm (UTC)
"Sure," she says easily, "but why use up our water if we don't have to? Besides," and her tone goes a little more firm, "sweet as your ship is, the restroom's a little cramped, and I'd like to take advantage of a bigger facility while we can."
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on November 6th, 2009 04:15 am (UTC)
Jenny nodded and grabbed for Cavilo's hand. "I think I saw one this way."
toxic_perfume: noir[personal profile] toxic_perfume on November 6th, 2009 04:45 am (UTC)
Cavilo lets her hand be grabbed; it's a grip she can break anytime she needs to. (And she doesn't need to.)

The public restrooms on Zav Station are pleasantly spacious, and well-kept; there's clearly a janitorial staff taking good care of them.

With any luck, Cavilo's not going to make their job a whole lot harder today.

"I won't be too long," she says, and slips into one of the stalls.
[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com on November 21st, 2009 06:06 pm (UTC)
"Okay," Jenny replies as she leans against one of the water basins. Human biology still fascinates her on some degree. Specifically in how it differs from Gallifreyan. "I'll be over here."
toxic_perfume: dodge this.[personal profile] toxic_perfume on November 24th, 2009 03:26 am (UTC)
Biology's not really why she's here.

It's just that having a door between them will lessen the risk of Jenny seeing what she's doing in time to stop her; and being in a restroom lessens the risk of anybody else seeing them.

Cavilo flushes the commode, opens the door, and fires the neural disruptor point-blank at Jenny's chest.
