Now that did sound like the Doctor; always in denial- denial of his own birthright, of the part he'd played in the War, the fact that his inheritance was not a sweet one. The Master's lips twisted faintly.
'I'm afraid he didn't give you the whole story.'
Reading the disappointment in her face at his words, he continued. 'The Time War was fought between two great and terrible civilisations- Gallifrey and Skaro, the Time Lords and the Daleks, their great enemy. Since the War was fought outside and around Time, there's no real way to say how long it lasted, but suffice to say that it was a bitter conflict. The Time Lords defending against the Daleks, but never truly retaliating. It wasn't until the end, when all was almost lost- the great Citadel of the Time Lords crumbled and in ruins- that they realised their mistake. The Daleks were going to win; defense was no longer sufficient- they were going to fall.'
He paused for a moment, gaging her reaction to his tale thus far, before continuing.
'And so they took the last option left to them, and gave it to the Doctor. He destroyed Gallifrey, and Skaro. Removed them from all of Time and space, made it as if they had never been. Like a god, two almighty civilisations burning at his hands; all the Time Lords, and all the Daleks- dead. He killed billions.'
A silence, just for emphasis.
'That's what happened to Gallifrey.'
